Can changing how you respond to things save your life?
Absolutely.
Every decision you make defines your future, but the way you choose to react defines the person you will become.

Have you ever been in a situation or argument and instantly regretted what came after? Or thought back to a certain moment and wish you could of done things differently? Because I have.

Depending on the story that just came to mind, can you see how your negative emotions sucked you in? Can you see where it might have took a turn for the worst?

Mistakes and regrets are suppose to be learning curves, that shape us into who we are. They remind us of who we were, who not to be and how far we’ve come since making those mistakes.

Rather than going straight into defense mode, there are other ways to respond that wont end in the same negative result.

Control your response

Learning to not let that negative anger take over the situation. Channel positive energy and take a deep breath before reacting. Count to 3 or 10, whatever it takes to remove your mindset from the negativity. Control the situation before the situation controls you.

Admit you might be wrong

We all know when we are in the wrong, even if we choose to ignore it for the sake of being wrong. Your ego can be your friend but it can also be your worst enemy. You don’t have to be right all the time and it is only human to make mistakes. If you make a mistake and it leads to a negative result, admit to it, learn from it and simply move on. Become the bigger person.

Learn from it

Everybody has that one story they could share with you where they’ve reacted badly. If you react negatively, recognize it and remember the circumstances that caused it to happen. Identify the triggers that make you respond in that way so you can look out for them in the future.

Remain positive

Keeping a positive attitude in a negative situation can be extremely difficult. It takes patience. Trusting in yourself and learning at your own pace will bring you to achieving your goals. You will eventually learn to overcome those emotional reactions. Becoming that person who can maintain control and deal with any type of issue in a positive way.

Life will continuously throw negative things at you. It is up to you how you react to them. You will either waste energy or you will gain it. Save your reputation, take the good with the bad, learn to turn a negative situation into a positive. Don’t let the actions of others or circumstances turn you to the dark side of yourself.

So you tell me, who are you going to be?
